Trotting and Harness Racing
The Harness Racing Association of South Africa

TSA Scholarships

The Harness Racing Association of South Africa in conjunction with
Svenska Travsportens CentralfÖrbund - Sweden are offering periodically,
Ten (10) EQUINE DRIVER-TRAINER SCHOLARSHIPS
to be taken up in Sweden for three months.

Utilising the famous breed of Standardbred horse and a lightweight sulky, harness racing or "trotting" is a major equine sport in North America, Australasia and Europe. Sweden is a country historically linked to the "work" and trotting horse and today has an enviable profile as a leading world harness racing jurisdiction.

The imminent introduction of the sport into South Africa, as well as a recently agreed accord with STC of Sweden, requires that competent trained personnel be available to participate in and service this new industry locally. A working exchange program has therefore been agreed giving South African equine enthusiasts the opportunity to learn the necessary skills in a highly regulated environment where integrity is paramount. All flight and accommodation costs will be borne and a small per diem allowance will be made available to successful applicants.

The Harness Racing Association of South Africa is committed to transformation in its sector and preference will be given to individuals from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.

Applications are invited from candidates (35 years of age max) who can demonstrate equine competency and skills. Good health is a pre-requisite and applicants must agree to undergo medical examinations prior to scholarship awards.

A concise CV detailing previous equine exposure should be faxed to 031 201 8752 / posted to P.O. Box 46, Durban 4000 or emailed to dlatimer@harnessracingsa.co.za.
